Introduction

High-voltage work is inherently hazardous and any team working with a range of marine high voltage systems must be on guard against incidents. Therefore a full understanding of safe procedures is essential.

MTCS corporate high voltage training courses serve to support personnel who are enrolled in the globally recognised MTCS Competence Certification Scheme for the ROV industry.

Course Overview

Over the duration of the 2-day course, your team will learn industry best practice and learn how to satisfy the requirements of IMCA R005 and other legislation. Most importantly, they’ll develop a detailed appreciation and understanding of high voltage safety.

On the first day, they’ll be immersed in the theoretical side of the high voltage course, where the second day includes hands-on activities in a suitably equipped workshop.

In this workshop, the candidate will sit a Practical Assessment, something which requires them to carry out an electrical isolation. During this exercise they will be required to demonstrate that they can safely follow your established company Electrical Isolation procedures, in line with ‘industry best practice’.

Candidate Requirements

Suitable course candidates will have some technical expertise and knowledge of ROV systems. Any personnel with a level of skill considered to be above that can still benefit from this course.

Course Modules

  • Safety with High Voltage
  • System Components
  • Risk & Injury
  • Safe Systems of Work
  • Hazardous Areas

Assessment

The theory test involves both multiple choice and short written answers. With a completed practical assessment, this forms the Assessment of Knowledge.

Certification

A certificate confirming Successful Completion of Knowledge & Practical is awarded to those who pass the Assessment of Knowledge.

We can also provide a certificate confirming a candidate is ‘Competent in ROV HV Systems’.

For this, the candidate must also hold a valid Certificate of Competence at Senior ROV Pilot Technician (Submersible Engineer) or above. This qualifies them to act as ‘Isolating Authority’ at the employer’s discretion.

For a breakdown of Assessment Outcomes, please consult the flow chart diagram on this website page.
