Online ROV High Pressure Hydraulics Training


Our online High Pressure Hydraulics training course is designed to provide ROV technicians and engineers with a fundamental knowledge of ROV hydraulic systems. The course is suitable for a range of disciplines and particularly in cross training personnel with electrical and electronic disciplines who need to multi skill.

Course Overview

The course covers both general hydraulic theory, high pressure hydraulic safety and can be applied to many ROV hydraulic systems. It provides an industry specific primer for personnel who are familiar with more general hydraulic principles.

The course is also suitable for personnel who are involved with the operation and maintenance of ROV Launch and Recovery (LARS) systems including Tether Management Systems (TMS).

The course is delivered in 2 stages. Stage 1 is delivered as an e-learning module and covers theoretical concepts, whereas stage 2 consists of a booklet that requires candidates to research their own systems, procedures and work methods.

Candidate Requirements

The course is ideal for ROV technicians and engineers who have little or no experience in hydraulic systems, and are required to enhance such as part of their career progression.

The course also assists in multiskilling technicians and engineers who are more electrically biased.

Stage 1 includes a range of multiple choice questions that must be completed at the end of each module. The final assessment will be uploaded to the candidate’s Online account for final assessment.

Stage 2 is delivered as a downloadable booklet that requires the candidate to submit a series of written assignments that apply hydraulic principles studied in Stage 1 to their own ROV systems.  On completion of stage 2, candidates can upload their completed booklet to their online account for final assessment.


On successful completion of stage 1 candidates receive a Certificate stating ‘Successful Completion of Training’.

On successful completion of Stage 2 candidates receive a Certificate stating ‘Competent in Hydraulic Systems’.

Course Delivery

The course is delivered through MTCS Online whereby candidates will be provided with a unique access code to download the material and guidance on how to use the course.

Additional Information

Stage 2 of the course requires the candidate to be actively involved in maintenance of ROV and or LARS Hydraulic systems.  The course is therefore suitable for personnel who work with Electric ROVs that are deployed using hydraulically powered Launch and Recovery/TMS systems.
